Norepinephrine and Dopamine Reuptake Inhibitors
: NDRIs don’t cause sexual side affect problems. The trade name most widely known is Wellbutrin.
: These are termed “atypical” simply because they don’t fit well into any other category. The trade names are Remeron, Oleptro and a new drug, Viibryd. These drugs can be used with other antidepressant drugs as sedatives t0 help with sleep disorders and are most often taken in the evening. Viibryd is reported to have few sexual side effects but can cause nausea and diarrhea.
: These drugs have been in use for a long time and, typically, are as effective as the newer compounds. However, they have more severe side effects and are no longer typically prescribed unless SSRI drugs aren’t effective to manage your depression. Side effects include blurred vision, confusion, elevated heart rate, and constipation.
Monomine Oxidase Inhibitors
: MAOIs are not used unless as a last resort when all other medications have failed to manage your depression. They have potentially very serious side effects because they don’t interact well with certain foods. Patients must follow a strict diet to prevent problems. Trade names are Nardil and Parnate. New to the market is Emsam which is taken as a patch applied to the skin.
: Your healthcare professional may choose to manage your depression with other drug regimens as well. Some antidepressants can be taken together to provide a better outcome. This is known as “augmentation”. Also other types of drugs like mood-stabilizers, antipsychotic medications, and stimulants are also used in effectively managing depression.

The two most significant things in overcoming depression rapidly and naturally, without drugs, are working out, and natural light. Seems too simple? Well, yes and no. You see, anytime a person is getting depressed, something as basic as getting up to answer the phone can be a problem. The commitment is just not there. You just don’t seem to have the energy or desire to make yourself move. But a little sunlight and a bit of exercise can work wonders.

First of all, whatever it takes, force yourself to get up and get out of the house. Do it even if its cold, wear a coat if you have to, but get outside.
