Depression Symptoms Can Lead to Suicide

People who think of committing suicide are those who are going through major depression symptoms. Instead of feeling better they would only fuel their depression symptoms even more with drugs and alcohol thus causing it to get worse. People who think about taking their life feel empty and they believe they’re able to find the answers for their depression symptoms from abusing alcohol and drugs which could lead them to end their life. It is a fact that alcohol and drugs further drives a person to commit suicide should their feeling of depression grow a whole lot worse. There have been a significant rise in the number of suicide rate over the last couple of years and a significant number of it is associated with alcohol dependency.

The truth is alcohol is a depressant and when a person is suffering from depression symptoms they are only making their mental state of depression worse. Rehabilitation centers and alcohol treatment centers work hard to educate people about why abusing alcohol and drugs can just momentarily numb a persons feelings. It is not a means to solve a person’s problems or dilemmas. Instead of helping it will only make things a whole lot worse and will cause an individual to develop not only an addiction for it but also medical conditions like brain damage and liver diseases.

There are a number of suicide hotlines where individuals who are thinking about committing suicide can call and get the help that they need to prevent them from taking their life. Suicide hotlines have helped many people by persuading them not to commit suicide and motivating them to talk to a therapist or psychologist about their issues. Rehabilitation facilities and addiction treatment centers frequently promote awareness to prevent people from committing suicide. There’s always an answer for every dilemma no matter how huge or small it may be and taking one’s life is neither the answer nor the solution. It would only cause pain to the friends and family they leave behind.

In order to not think about taking one’s own life a person needs to constantly communicate with their loved ones and friends or have someone to talk to in order to unload their burden on. By doing this they could unload all their frustrations and issues to someone which will make them feel a bit better. Speaking with someone ensures that a person has someone they can go to if they have any problem. If however a person cannot find somebody they know then they can speak with a therapist or psychologist. These professionals can help find an answer to a persons depression symptoms with a mixture of therapy and prescription medications.

Stress and Depression

Are you currently so stressed that it’s causing depression? Don’t feel all alone.

Quite a few people are experiencing problems coping with the stress filled events and issues bombarding our lives. When stress develops, it triggers a “fight or flight” response within our brains and, if it occurs on a constant basis, your whole body and mind may well begin to display signs of stress depression.

When this type of chronic stress comes about, it might overwhelm you, resulting in depression symptoms like swift changes in moods, lethargy and problems working or attending classes. You may find it hard to keep on with an ordinary routine. But, stress and depression together might be controlled by learning a few coping skills and taking better care of yourself.

Coping skills you will wish to take advantage of include meditation, exercise routines, including the stretching and breathing procedures that yoga provides. Consuming too much alcohol and drug use definitely add to the causes of stress depression, so try to develop a healthier lifestyle by avoiding these stress inducers and trying to eat healthy foods that boost your body’s immune system instead of bring it down.

Stress Depression is reduced by serotonin

Scientific studies have proven that a chemical named serotonin manages the part of the brain which induces depression. If your brain isn’t making sufficient serotonin, you could feel sad, lose sleep or sleep a lot and develop other, more severe, symptoms of stress and depression. There may be other factors for depression, but insufficient serotonin could be a major cause. Continue reading “Stress Depression”

Physical Symptoms of Depression

Depression is, of course, an emotional and mental condition but it is powerful enough to cause changes in your body as well as your mind. If you have never suffered from depression you have no idea of how painful it can be. Here are some of the physical symptoms of depression:

This has become an overworked and underappreciated word. Everyone takes great pride in telling friends how “exhausted” they are because they work so hard. So let’s use a less well known synonym: “the condition of being used up”. As one of the physical symptoms of depression, this fits exactly. If you sleep at night but still feel so “used up” that you can’t get through the day, you might be dealing with depression.

Issues with Sleep

Changes in normal sleep habits and duration are right at the top as another of the physical symptoms of depression. If you are a sound sleeper who suddenly has problems falling asleep, or sleeping through the night, you might be dealing with depression. On the other hand, there are also documented instances of depression causing people to sleep much more than normal. So, it is safe to say that any changes in sleep patterns can be cause for concern.

Physical Discomfort

Many people who are diagnosed with depression report aching muscles and discomfort in their joints for no apparent reason (they are not exercising for example). Often these issues can be called “chronic” because they go on and on. They can be controlled with medication but the underlying cause is depression.

Persistent headaches are yet another of the physical symptoms of depression. While all of us get headaches at one point or another people dealing with depression are more than three times as likely to experience severe headaches such as migraines.

Problems with Intimacy

People with depression frequently have problems with intimacy. There are a lot of reasons including alcohol and drug use (and abuse). Many drugs and alcohol can work to reduce your libido, even prescription medications.

Obviously all of these symptoms, and others, happen all the time and are not necessarily physical symptoms of depression. But if you or a loved one is dealing with several of these at the same time it could be warning signs of depression. The smart thing to do is schedule an appointment with your doctor as soon as you can and discuss your symptoms with him/her.

Depression is eminently treatable so there is no reason why you should continue to deal with all this unpleasantness.

Do you have a friend who seems to have lost her zest for life? Maybe she seems sadder than usual or unable to enjoy her everyday activities? If she also has been experiencing a change in sleep patterns, appetite, and seems generally low in energy, she could be suffering from clinical depression.

About a quarter of all adults will experience a bout of clinical depression at some point in their lives. Depression is more than simply feeling moody or upset about a negative event. People who are depressed tend to not be able to love, focus, or work effectively. As the friend of someone who is depressed, you may have to experience a less-than-ideal friendship for a while, but supporting her is more important than ever. Here are five things to keep in mind when comforting a depressed friend:

Don’t Try To Fix It  While it’s good to offer help to your friend, don’t try to immediately fix the problem. You may find yourself making suggestion after suggestion and getting impatient when your friend doesn’t want to comply. Everyone has their own process when they navigate depression, and it may be a while before your friend is ready to actively work on her recovery. Ask her, “What’s the best thing I can do for you right now?” If her answer is “nothing,” that’s okay. Sometimes the best way to help someone who’s depressed is to do nothing. Just make sure you make yourself available to her when she’s ready, and remember that only she can take the necessary steps to work through her depression – you can’t fix it. Overcoming Depression Quickly

The two most significant things in overcoming depression rapidly and naturally, without drugs, are working out, and natural light. Seems too simple? Well, yes and no. You see, anytime a person is getting depressed, something as basic as getting up to answer the phone can be a problem. The commitment is just not there. You just don’t seem to have the energy or desire to make yourself move. But a little sunlight and a bit of exercise can work wonders.

Overcoming Depression with power of the sun

First of all, whatever it takes, force yourself to get up and get out of the house. Do it even if its cold, wear a coat if you have to, but get outside. Exposing yourself to sunlight boosts the bodies levels of serotonin. Serotonin acts like a neurotransmitter and one of its functions is elevation of mood. The nice thing about this is that its all free. All you have to do is get to where you can feel the sun and nature will take over. Its all natural and you are going to feel better very soon.

Overcoming Depression with the power of the human body

Now let’s move on to the other thing you must do to feel better and that is exercise. Some people consider this a dirty word and don’t want to talk about it at all. In fact, it appears that there are two very different camps when it comes to exercise. One camp has the people that can’t stand it, think it is highly over rated and don’t want to talk about it. These folks practically have to be tricked into any exercise more strenuous than walking from their car to the door. These are also the same folks who hunt endlessly for the parking space closest to the mall entrance. Continue reading “Overcoming Depression Quickly”
